Types of Trees
We grow several beautiful varieties — each with its own character.
Canaan Fir
A balsam-type fir. Soft, dark green needles with silvery undersides. Excellent needle retention with a classic Christmas tree fragrance.
Concolor Fir
Also known as White Fir, native to the western US. Small, narrow needles (1–1½") in neat rows. Good foliage color, great needle retention, and a lovely orange citrus aroma.
Blue Spruce
Heavy, stiff branches that hold even the heaviest ornaments. Its prickly 1" needles keep adventurous toddlers safely on the floor. A bold, classic choice.
Tree Care Guide
How to get to January and still have a beautiful tree.
Start With a Fresh Cut
Make sure your tree was freshly cut — either by you or by your grower. If the cut is more than a day old, take at least ¼ inch off the bottom before placing it in water.
Get It in Water Right Away
Take your tree home and put it in water that day, even if you aren't going to finish setting up. Use very warm water for the first fill — it softens the sap and helps the tree start drinking.
Keep the Water Level Up
Never let the water drop below the trunk's base. Check twice a day for the first five days (trees drink a lot at first), then once daily. A stand that holds plenty of water helps.
Avoid Heat Sources
Don't place your tree next to forced-air vents, stoves, or other heat sources. These will dry out one side of the tree much faster.
Skip the Additives
Research shows that water additives like sugar and aspirin do nothing helpful and can even grow mold. Plain water is all your tree needs.

About Us
Tait Farm Christmas Trees is a family operation rooted in over 70 years of working this land. What started in 1950 has grown into a tradition that spans generations — from the grandparents who first raised sheep on the land with day jobs as Agricultural and Home Economic agents for the state, to their son John who planted trees on these hills and his kids who grew up running through the fields.
Today, John still runs the farm with the help of Emily Zink. If you have been a customer for many years you probably also remember the era of Christmas trees & Basset Hounds — the Tait family raised and sold them as loving pets alongside Christmas trees for decades.
Every season, our dedicated crew works hard to make sure your family's visit is easy, fun, and memorable. We're grateful for the community that comes back year after year — and we can't wait to welcome you.
Wildlife Conservancy
Our farm is more than Christmas trees — it's a living habitat we're proud to protect.
Our 130+ acres sit at the gateway to Rothrock State Forest, adjacent to two Pennsylvania Important Bird Areas — Greater Tussey Mountain and Rothrock/Stone Mountain — recognized for spring raptor migration and intact forest habitat. Just four miles south, Bear Meadows Natural Area is a National Natural Landmark and part of the Old-Growth Forest Network. Our farm serves as a critical buffer and transition zone connecting these protected landscapes.
From over 40 bird species to bears, deer fawns born in our fields each spring, and the frogs and butterflies that thrive along our ponds, the land we steward is home to far more than trees. We maintain natural corridors, wetlands, and meadow edges that support a rich ecosystem.
Every tree we grow removes carbon from the atmosphere, and when you cut your tree, a new seedling takes its place — keeping the cycle going for generations to come. We're proud to be part of the broader conservation effort in central Pennsylvania, working alongside organizations like ClearWater Conservancy to connect vital landscapes and protect the groundwater and habitats that make this region so special.
Birds
